Factory or Trading Company? How to Tell Who You Are Really Buying From
There is nothing illegal about buying through a trading company, and a good one adds real service. The problem is not knowing which one you are dealing with — because it changes your price, your spare-parts supply and who picks up the phone when a machine stops working two years from now.

Five checks that settle it
- Live video from the workshop, with today’s date on a board. This one test resolves most cases.
- Business licence scope — production vs wholesale/import-export.
- Patent ownership — patents belong to whoever does the R&D. Ask for numbers and check the holder matches the company on your contract.
- Reverse-image-search their photos. If the same machine appears under four company names, none of them took the photo.
- Ask an engineering question with a number in the answer — steel grade, weighing accuracy, gradeability, drum slew angle. Factories answer immediately.
Two things that do not prove anything
A B2B platform “verified supplier” or “gold” badge mostly certifies that the company paid for membership and had its registration checked — it does not distinguish a factory from a trader. Neither does an impressive office address; production happens in an industrial zone, not a city-centre tower.
When a trader is the right choice
If you are importing several different machine types in one shipment, or you need someone local handling documents and consolidation, a good trading company earns its margin. Just price it knowingly — and make sure the spare-parts channel does not depend on them alone.
